Hawaii Pacific Health Child Life Specialist, Lead - Child Life Services in Honolulu, Hawaii

Job Description

Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i’s leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 253 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high-risk perinatal care. Over 1,400 employees and more than 700 physicians provide specialty care at Kapi'olani. The hospital is home to the Kapi'olani Women’s Center and the Women’s Cancer Center, and offers numerous community programs and services, such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.

The Kapi‘olani Child Life Services helps our young patients cope constructively with hospitalization and treatment processes since these can be a frightening and confusing experience for children and their families. The Child Life team of professionals aims to provide comprehensive care through special activities like medical play, preoperative tours and pre-procedural teaching to help children deal with their treatment and hospital stay.

If you are a dynamic and compassionate individual who loves working with children, you could be the ideal candidate for our Lead Child Life Specialist. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop rehabilitative and therapeutic activities for children. This includes implementing therapeutic activities, programs and events to meet their psychosocial and developmental needs and help them to adjust to their health care experiences. You will also serve as a member of our multidisciplinary team to plan, provide and communicate appropriate patient care needs; delegate and oversee the daily work of assistive personnel and volunteers; participate in clinical training of student interns; and conduct educational, outreach and community events. We are looking for someone with excellent organizational and communication skills, a commitment to working with children and their families, leadership and planning ability and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people.
