Job Description
Founded in 1921, Straub Medical Center includes a 159-bed hospital in Honolulu, a network of neighborhood clinics and a visiting specialist program that reaches throughout the state of Hawai'i. With over 200 physicians who are leaders in their fields, Straub provides its patients with diagnoses and treatments for more than 32 different medical specialties, including bone and joint, heart, cancer, endocrinology/diabetes, family medicine, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, vascular and urology. Straub is home to the Pacific Region’s only multidisciplinary burn treatment center. The hospital consistently brings new technologies and innovative medical practices to Hawai'i, such as minimally invasive cardiac surgery and total joint replacement.
The Ornish Reversal Program is nationally recognized—through the results of more than 35 years of peer-reviewed, published research—for reversing the progression of heart disease. The program has been proven to undo heart disease by dealing with the root causes and not just its effects. Participants that qualify for the program will attend 18, four-hour sessions over 9 weeks that include education on the four key elements of the Ornish Reversal Program - fitness, nutrition, stress management, and love and support. The combined effect of all four lifestyle elements makes the transformative difference. Over the years, participants have reported that they no longer have chest pain, they have more energy, their cholesterol levels and blood pressure have lowered, and they have kept off weight lost while taking part in the program. Participants have also reported that they have been able to reduce the amount of medication they took for years.
If you are an enthusiastic and caring individual with great communication skills and nutritional knowledge, you could share valuable nutritional and dietary information with Straub patients and staff. As a Dietician, you will provide nutrition, weight management and diabetes management instruction for client groups and individuals, employees or the community. You will also perform nutritional assessment and consults with treating healthcare professionals as to plan of care for cardiac rehab patients. Minimum Qualifications: Registered Dietitian or R.D. eligible. One (1) year in clinical and/or food and nutritional services experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Active member of American Dietitic Association. Bariatric experience.
