Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i’s leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 243 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high-risk perinatal care. At Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides continuous acute care to newborns of up to three months, including meeting the complex psychosocial needs of both the child and their family. Nursing and medical support staff in the NICU work with the Neonatology team to care for premature babies and assist in pediatric surgeries, providing care to newborn infants with cardiovascular and/or respiratory disease and infants requiring treatments for various diagnoses including infection and surgery. Support and education is delivered to patients and family in an atmosphere that promotes bonding of the family unit.
As the Lactation Consultant-RN, you will ensure that caring, sensitive lactation information and training is provided to mothers and families of the Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children. Your responsibilities include providing lactation education and management services, telephone triage and counseling to patients and members of the community. Minimum Qualifications: Current Hawai‘i Registered Nurse License. Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card. Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification or equivalent. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (must obtain within one year of hire). Three (3) years experience providing breastfeeding education, counseling, or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field.
