Founded in 1921, Straub Medical Center includes a 159-bed hospital in Honolulu, a network of neighborhood clinics and a visiting specialist program that reaches throughout the state of Hawai'i. With over 200 physicians who are leaders in their fields, Straub provides its patients with diagnoses and treatments for more than 32 different medical specialties, including bone and joint, heart, cancer, endocrinology/diabetes, family medicine, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, vascular and urology. Straub is home to the Pacific Region’s only multidisciplinary burn treatment center. The hospital consistently brings new technologies and innovative medical practices to Hawai'i, such as minimally invasive cardiac surgery and total joint replacement.

The Surgery team at Straub Clinic & Hospital is committed to providing professional, high quality care to patients and their families. Straub surgeons perform a variety of general procedures as well as vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. General surgeons perform surgeries from appendectomies to gastrointestinal, breast, thyroid or endocrine surgery. Vascular surgeons specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the arteries and veins, and have expertise in blockages and aneurysms of the arteries in the neck, abdomen and extremities. The Vascular Lab technologists are expert in the examination or arteries and veins throughout the body, and cardiac surgeons diagnose and surgically treat heart disease, including performing cardiac bypass grafts, correct aortic aneurysms, implant cardiac pacemakers or defibrillators to treat cardiac arrhythmia and replace defective heart valves.

As a Medical Assistant, you will join the dedicated team of physicians and medical staff that provide our recognized compassionate health services to patients and their families. In this role, you will perform a wide variety of patient care activities in our Surgery department. We are looking for someone detail-oriented and attentive, with strong communications and patient care skills and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people.

Minimum Qualifications: High school or equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program and/or equivalent experience. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), OR Assessment Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE)from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologist (AMT), OR Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency testing (NCCT), OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from American Registry of Medical Assistants, OR Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), OR Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) from the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card. Must Be able to complete departmental competency assessment by conclusion of orientation period.

Preferred Experience: Six (6) months medical assistant experience. Knowledge of Classification Procedural Terminology (CPT) and/or International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) coding. Experience with electronic medical records.
