Job Description

Founded in 1921, Straub Medical Center includes a 159-bed hospital in Honolulu, a network of neighborhood clinics and a visiting specialist program that reaches throughout the state of Hawai'i. With over 200 physicians who are leaders in their fields, Straub provides its patients with diagnoses and treatments for more than 32 different medical specialties, including bone and joint, heart, cancer, endocrinology/diabetes, family medicine, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, vascular and urology. Straub is home to the Pacific Region’s only multidisciplinary burn treatment center. The hospital consistently brings new technologies and innovative medical practices to Hawai'i, such as minimally invasive cardiac surgery and total joint replacement.

Straub ophthalmologists, assisted by optometrists and certified ophthalmic technicians, provide a full range of eye care services for children and adults. These professionals are trained in the most up-to-date surgical procedures for treatment of cataracts, corneal disease, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinal disease and orbital disease. Straub offers total eye care complete with one-stop-shopping optical shops, including a full selection of glasses frames, lenses and contact lenses.

As the Ophthalmic Technician, you will help our Ophthalmology department to provide quality eye care and attention to Straub patients and their families. In this role, you will provide base level technical and clinical support to the Ophthalmologist during Diagnostic procedures. We are looking for someone highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent communication and patient care skills and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people.

Minimum Qualifications: Current American Heart Association Heart Saver – AED CPR card. One (1) year experience in an ophthalmology office setting.

Preferred Qualifications: The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology – Ophthalmic Technician. One (1) year experience at Ophthalmic Technician level.
