Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i’s leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 253 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high-risk perinatal care. Over 1,400 employees and more than 700 physicians provide specialty care at Kapi'olani. The hospital is home to the Kapi'olani Women’s Center and the Women’s Cancer Center, and offers numerous community programs and services, such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.
The Pediatric Ambulatory Unit at Kapi‘olani is dedicated to providing family-centered, multidisciplinary care for children with cancer, blood and immunological disorders. Services include lab collection from central venous lines, diagnostics such as bone marrow aspirations and lumbar punctures, procedural preparations, pain management, complex chemotherapy administration, transfusions and a number of clinical services ranging from coagulopathy to immunology. Kapi‘olani is a member institution of the Children’s Oncology Group, which enables our children to receive the most up-to-date treatment methods by participating in the National Cancer Institute’s approved clinical trials.
If you are a compassionate, sensitive caregiver and enjoy working in a team-oriented environment, you could be the ideal candidate for our Registered Nurse position. You would provide nursing services through the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of patient care in our Pediatric Ambulatory Unit. You would also function as an associate to a charge nurse, and eventually assume charge nurse responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications: Current Hawai‘i Registered Nurse License. One (1) year recent acute care Registered Nurse experience in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider in good standing. Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card. Current Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) CPR cards.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field. Two (2) years recent acute care Registered Nurse experience in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Certified chemotherapy/biotherapy provider. Chemotherapy competency up-to-date. EPIC database proficient. Certified pediatric hematology and oncology nurse. Understanding of government regulations for infusion charging. Certified Pediatric Nurse.
